About
Golden Plains Shire Council has the opportunity to apply for funding up to $2 million from the Victorian Government’s Safe Local Roads and Streets Program. This initiative is designed to enhance road safety on Council-managed roads, intersections and precincts. The program fosters a collaborative approach bringing together local councils, the Department of Transport and Planning and the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) to jointly identify, plan, develop and deliver crucial road safety improvements across the state.
Council is committed to creating a safe environment for all residents to travel, whether they choose to walk, cycle or drive, and we are asking the community to work with us as we plan and deliver road safety initiatives to reduce road trauma and support a safe and thriving community.
Council identified eight projects as part of its initial planning phase:
- Project 1 – Milton Street & Burns Street, Bannockburn – Raised pedestrian crossings.
- Project 2 – Heales Street and Becker Street, Smythesdale – Raised pedestrian crossings.
- Project 3 – East Street, Inverleigh – Raised pedestrian crossing.
- Project 4 – Moreillon Boulevard, Bannockburn – Raised pedestrian crossing.
- Project 5 – Racecourse Road and Haddon-Windermere Road, Haddon – Raised pedestrian crossings.
- Project 6 – Golden Plains Shire (Various locations) – Bulk speed limit reduction.
- Project 7 – Lacy Road & Sebastopol-Smythesdale Road, Ross Creek – Intersection upgrade.
- Project 8 – Bowes Road & Sebastopol-Smythesdale Road, Smythes Creek – Intersection upgrade.
Council invited community feedback on these initiatives before submitting an application for funding through the Safe Local Roads and Streets Program in January 2025.
