Council celebrated the opening of the Bannockburn Victoria Park Netball Pavilion on Tuesday 3 September, with the project promoting participation for women and girls through the provision of female-friendly facilities.
The new Netball Pavilion at Victoria Park Recreation Reserve in Bannockburn includes: two female friendly change rooms with amenities, two female friendly umpires change rooms with amenities, first aid room, office area, storage spaces and a Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) compliant toilet facility.
Member for Corangamite Libby Coker MP and Member for Geelong Christine Couzens MP joined Golden Plains Shire Council Mayor Cr Brett Cunningham at Victoria Park for the official opening event.
This is a $1.79M total project with funding of $1.1M from the Victorian State Government (Sport and Recreation Victoria) and $690K from the Federal Government.
The two components of the project were tendered separately with construction on the new Netball Pavilion occurring between April and August 2024. With the AFL season coming to a close, the football changeroom refurbishment works will now commence for completion by late 2024.
In addition to Sport and Recreation Victoria, project stakeholders have included Netball Victoria, AFL Victoria and community representatives from Bannockburn Football Netball Club and Bannockburn Cricket Club.
