Council is proud to host an event at Bannockburn Cultural Centre on Tuesday 3 December to recognise International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) 2024.
IDPwD is held globally each year on 3 December as a United Nations Day of Observance. In Australia, the day focuses on raising awareness, fostering understanding and promoting acceptance of the 5.5 million Australians living with a disability.
To celebrate the event, Council has partnered with Kicking Goals Geelong Disability Services who will host a dance and exercise class as well as a cookie decorating session. The event runs from 11.30am to 1.30pm and includes lunch. To register your attendance, visit goldenplains.vic.gov.au/events or call 5220 7111.
Golden Plains Shire CEO Shane Walden said Council strives to enhance accessibility and inclusivity, enabling people with disabilities and other access challenges to fully engage with Council and benefit from Council’s services.
“In August 2024, Council adopted the Golden Plains Shire Disability Action Plan Strategic Framework 2025-2029 which underscores our commitment to creating an inclusive community where everyone has access to the Council support and services they need,” Mr Walden said.
“We’re excited to celebrate International Day of People with Disability, and we encourage residents and visitors to register for our fun and inclusive event at the Bannockburn Cultural Centre,” he said.
