To celebrate National Volunteer Week 2024, Golden Plains Shire Council acknowledges our extraordinary individual and group volunteers who play a vital role in delivering some of our most essential services and programs.

The theme for National Volunteer Week 2024 is ‘Something for Everyone.’ The week-long event recognises the diverse passions and talents everyone brings to the act of volunteering. It’s an invitation to explore the myriad of opportunities available, emphasising that there’s a place for everyone in the world of volunteering.

Over the coming months, we’ll be profiling some of our remarkable community groups on our social media channels and highlighting their excellent contributions to Golden Plains Shire.

One of the many extraordinary groups is the Linton Craft Group, who have 15 members attend their weekly sessions.

We meet every Thursday from 10am to 3pm for our normal session with Mondays being ‘Special Project’ day. The only time we stop is when we have a three-week break over the Christmas and New Year period,” said Janet Pathe from the Linton Craft Group.

Our group started in 2018. One simple question was the catalyst do you like to do craft, and would you be interested in attending a craft group? ’Our group is diverse and very informal. We work on what you want to work on at your own pace. If you want to learn how to do something, group members are happy to help you.

Our members live in Linton, Smythes Creek, Smythesdale, Scarsdale, Ballarat, Snake Valley and surrounds. Everyone is valued, treated equally, has a voice and is heard,” Janet said.

We laugh a lot, talk a lot, support each other, and help each other. In the middle of all that we do craft including quilting, knitting, dressmaking, sewing and embroidery. Throughout the year we organise outings and make sure that all who are interested can take part. No one misses out.

Council would like to thank all our remarkable volunteers and volunteer groups who make a difference to many lives in Golden Plains Shire.

We invite local community groups to register their information on Council’s Online Community Directory, a platform that allows local community groups, clubs, services, associations, and facilities to connect with each other.

Residents and visitors can utilise this directory to easily find contact information and obtain detailed information about community groups and service providers that align with their interests.
