Golden Plains Shire Council is inviting the community to provide feedback on a proposed lease for a new telecommunications site located at Ackland Road in Lethbridge, a crucial step in improving connectivity within the region.
The lease is being negotiated with a private provider, with community consultation required under the Local Government Act 2020.
Council actively advocates for better telecommunications infrastructure to benefit residents and businesses throughout the Shire. We’re committed to ensuring the community’s voice is heard and reflected as part of this initiative and encourage residents to share their feedback.
The project is in the early stages and to begin detailed project planning the private company needs to secure a lease for land. The land in Ackland Street (adjacent to the rail reserve) has been identified as a suitable location. This project is in the early development phase, with funding and installation dependent on future opportunities.
Golden Plains Shire Council Interim CEO Steve Sagona emphasised the importance of this initiative and encouraged community members to share their views.
The proposed tower is part of Council’s ongoing commitment to expanding infrastructure assets and ensuring residents have access to reliable telecommunications services, Mr Sagona said.
“While this is an important step in helping us address connectivity challenges, we value the feedback of Lethbridge residents and want to hear your thoughts on the proposed site. Your feedback will provide a vital role in informing our decision-making process and ensuring the project aligns with the community’s needs.”
Feedback is welcome from Thursday 27 March to 9am, Thursday 17 April 2025. Community members are invited to share their views on this initiative, with further information available online at goldenplains.vic.gov.au/consultations and at Council’s Customer Hubs, 2 Pope Street, Bannockburn, and 19 Heales Street, Smythesdale.
