Council adopted the Bannockburn Integrated Water Management (IWM) Plan at its meeting on Tuesday 25 February 2025. The IWM Plan outlines a series of opportunities to improve and manage the water cycle in Bannockburn to deliver a greener and more liveable township.

In response to the projected growth of Bannockburn, the Barwon IWM Forum identified the development of the Bannockburn IWM Plan as a priority project. The plan was developed in consultation with Barwon Water, the Victorian Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action, the Barwon IWM Forum, Wadawurrung Traditional Owners and the local community.

The IWM Plan aims to manage the impacts and demands of urbanisation and population growth on the water cycle in Bannockburn and provides aspirational targets over the next decade and beyond.

Golden Plains Shire Council Mayor Cr Sarah Hayden said the Bannockburn IWM Plan addressed the ongoing sustainable management of water in Bannockburn, in line with community values and expectations.

“Our growing population offers numerous benefits, but also presents challenges that could impact the quality of life we value in Bannockburn. One of the key challenges is water management, which requires innovative solutions in response to our changing climate,” Cr Hayden said.

“The Bannockburn IWM Plan seeks to improve water cycle management in Bannockburn, reduce potable water consumption, utilise alternative water resources, enhance landscapes and improve waterway health,” she said.

“The IWM Plan sets out targets and actions which will grow Bannockburn as a water sensitive township, with water supporting liveability and resilience within the community, and a thriving environment.”
