Teesdale Inline Hockey Player, Piper Flett, has recently returned from competing in national championships and her achievements were recognised with a Golden Plains Shire Citizen Recognition Award.
Piper is 11 years old and represented Victoria at the National Inline Hockey Championships held in Queensland from 29 September to 6 October 2024. This was the first time Piper had represented her state after qualifying for the team by attending try outs in Melbourne and Moe.
Piper has followed in the footsteps of her older brother Lachlan, who has also represented Victoria and Australia at an international level in the sport of Inline Hockey.
Golden Plains Shire Mayor Cr Sarah Hayden said Piper’s talent and dedication to the sport had given her an opportunity to show off her skills on a national stage.
“Council is proud to recognise Piper’s effort with a Citizen Recognition Award. The sport is clearly a family affair and no doubt there are great competitions ahead for Piper,” Cr Hayden said.
“Piper loves skating and the challenge of competing against older players which is an admirable quality to have. To be selected to play for Victoria is a fantastic achievement and we look forward to following Piper’s sporting career.”
Council’s Citizen Recognition Award program recognises Golden Plains Shire residents who take part in State Level or Above competition. To nominate yourself, or another resident, visit goldenplains.vic.gov.au/community/awards-and-recognition/recognising-local-citizens.
