Footpath Strategy 2024-2034 Adopted

Footpath Strategy Adopted
Strategies & Plans

Golden Plains Shire Council adopted the Footpath Strategy 2024-2034 (the Strategy) at its meeting on Tuesday 27 August 2024.

The Footpath Strategy underwent public exhibition in June 2024, following community consultation throughout 2023.

The Strategy is a vital tool for managing Council’s existing footpath assets and is designed to enhance pedestrian networks in every township across the Shire over a 10-year period. It aims to identify and recommend future upgrades and new footpath construction priorities and proactively plan for ongoing maintenance.

The Strategy outlines a clear plan for assessing footpath usage, enabling Council to gather vital data and insights to guide future priorities for new footpath constructions, as well as ongoing maintenance efforts, ensuring that our footpaths meet the evolving needs of the community.

Mayor Cr Brett Cunningham said the adoption of the Footpath Strategy ensures Council can effectively prioritise future upgrades for our pedestrian networks.

Thank you to all community members who played a role in developing the Strategy over the past year. Establishing strong pedestrian networks is crucial to making our communities more liveable and connected, Cr Cunningham said.

With the adoption of the Strategy, Council will now focus on prioritising future upgrades, new footpath construction and proactively plan ongoing maintenance across the Shire, he said.
