Further Feedback Sought for Northern Streetscapes

Northern Streetscapes Web
Engagement

Golden Plains Shire Council is seeking the communities’ thoughts on the Northern Streetscapes Framework Plan (the Framework Plan) to help inform the development of detailed concept designs for the Northern Streetscapes Project.

Developed following extensive community consultation throughout 2021, the Framework Plan provides a guide for the ongoing design and implementation of beautification works to enhance the character of the three town centres of Smythesdale, Scarsdale and Linton, which form the northern corridor of Golden Plains Shire along the Glenelg Highway.

Council will now embark on another consultation journey to engage the communities’ thoughts on whether the Framework Plan aligns with the current needs and aspirations of the community, or if adjustments are needed in the development of the detailed concept designs.

Residents are invited to review the plan and share their thoughts in several ways, including a series of Listening Posts which will be held on Thursday 12 September in the following townships:

  • Smythesdale from 12 to 1.30pm out the front of Thru the Gate Café, 42 Brooke Street, Smythesdale
  • Scarsdale from 2.30 to 4pm out the front of the Scarsdale General Store, and Post Office, 2069 Glenelg Highway, Scarsdale
  • Linton from 4.30 to 6pm out the front of the Service Station and Post Office, 11 Sussex Street, Linton

An online survey will also be available for residents unable to attend the Listening Posts.

Golden Plains Shire Mayor Cr Brett Cunningham encourages community members to attend the Listening Posts.

It’s been a few years since we consulted with northern residents on the Northern Streetscapes project, and we want to make sure the Framework Plan is still relevant to the community before we move forward with the development of detailed concept designs, Cr Cunningham said.

The Listening Posts provide an excellent chance for residents to review the Framework Plan and share your thoughts on whether it aligns with the aspirations of your community. I encourage northern residents to attend one of the sessions and be actively involved in this process, he said.

The Northern Streetscapes Project is funded by $650,000 from Council and $650,000 from Berrybank Wind Farm.

Feedback on the Framework Plan is invited from Monday 26 August to 9am, Monday 16 September 2024, and can be viewed online at goldenplains.vic.gov.au/consultations. It will also be available at Council’s Customer Hubs, 2 Pope Street, Bannockburn, and 19 Heales Street, Smythesdale.

After the consultation period, Council will proceed with developing detailed designs for the streetscapes and will keep the community informed about future consultation opportunities for input scheduled in the latter part of 2024.
