Golden Plains Shire Council is seeking feedback from the community on the Draft Footpath Strategy 2024-2034 (the Strategy) after it was endorsed for public exhibition at the 25 June Council meeting.

The Strategy was developed following community consultation in 2023 which consisted of three in-person community forums as well as an online consultation opportunity.

The Strategy assists Council in managing its current footpath assets and will help develop pedestrian networks to every township by delivering and upgrading footpaths across the Shire over a 10-year period. It aims to identify and recommend future upgrades and new footpath construction priorities and proactively plan for ongoing maintenance.

The Strategy will provide a detailed framework for assessing footpath usage, enabling Council to gather vital data and insights. This will guide future improvements and maintenance efforts, ensuring that our footpaths meet the evolving needs of the community.

Mayor Cr Brett Cunningham encourages community members to provide their feedback on the Strategy.

Footpaths and walkways play a significant role in connecting our communities and providing means of access to community facilities, services, public transport and open spaces,” Cr Cunningham said.

The Strategy ensures Council can effectively prioritise future upgrades, new footpath construction and proactively plan ongoing maintenance for all users in the Shire,” he said.

I encourage residents to view the Strategy and look forward to receiving their feedback throughout the public exhibition period.

Community members are invited to provide feedback on the Strategy from Thursday 27 June to 9am, Thursday 25 July 2024 online at goldenplains.vic.gov.au/consultations; by email to [email protected] or mailed to Golden Plains Shire Council, PO Box 111, Bannockburn, VIC, 3331.

Feedback will be considered before the Strategy is presented for adoption at a future Council meeting.
