Golden Plains Shire Council is inviting suitably qualified and experienced applicants to apply to join its Audit and Risk Committee as an independent member.

Council operates the Audit and Risk Committee (the Committee) as part of its governance obligations. The Committee supports Council in discharging its oversight responsibilities related to financial and performance reporting, risk management, fraud prevention, internal controls and assurance activities including internal and external audit and compliance with its policies and legal obligations.

The Committee is responsible for ensuring Council meets its responsibilities as set out in the Committee Charter and provide appropriate advice and recommendations on matters relevant to its Charter to facilitate decision-making by Council.

Golden Plains Shire Mayor Cr Brett Cunningham encouraged qualified applicants to put themselves forward for the position should they have relevant experience and skills to provide appropriate advice and guidance to Council as a member of the Audit and Risk Committee.

“Council’s Audit and Risk Committee performs its role by monitoring, reviewing, endorsing and advising Council on relevant matters set out in the Committee’s Charter. The appointment of independent members enables the committee to provide independent advice to Council on relevant matters based on broader skills and experience outside of Council,” Cr Cunningham said.

The position will commence from August 2024 for an initial three-year term from the date of appointment, with a second and final term available at the discretion of Council.

The Committee presently meets four times a year on the second Tuesday in February, May, August and October. Meetings usually commence at 9am and the duration may vary from 1 to 3 hours.

As part of their application, respondents should provide a cover letter, a submission addressing the eligibility requirements and selection criteria, a resume and at least two professional referees’ contact details. Following submission of an Expression of Interest, applications will be reviewed by the Chief Executive Officer. The submissions will be shortlisted and suitable candidates will be invited for an interview.

Expressions of Interest will be open until 5pm Friday 21 June 2024 and can be emailed to [email protected] titled ‘Audit and Risk Committee – Independent Member’ or mailed to Golden Plains Shire Council, PO Box 111, Bannockburn, VIC, 3331 marked ‘Attention: Audit and Risk Committee – Independent Member.’
