Rokewood Landfill Rehabilitation Works Begin

Works have commenced on capping and rehabilitation of the closed Rokewood Landfill, a project aimed at transforming the former site into a sustainable landscape. The landfill was closed in 2015 and the site now operates as the Rokewood Resource Recovery Centre.

Council has engaged Fulton Hogan to carry out the rehabilitation works which involves utilising existing on-site materials and importing additional materials to create a final topsoil layer. This topsoil layer will be seeded to prevent erosion and foster the development of future native grasslands. The entire project is expected to take two to three months to complete.

During this period, there will be increased traffic near and around the site, due to earthworks equipment and vehicles travelling to and from the closed landfill. However, Council anticipates minimal disruption to local traffic flow

The Rokewood Resource Recovery Centre will continue to operate its usual hours of Sundays from 10am to 3pm during these works.
