Council is excited to announce that State Government funding has been secured to upgrade the Woady Yaloak Recreation Reserve’s netball and tennis facilities.

Local residents are set to enjoy enhanced facilities at the reserve, located in Smythesdale, following Council’s successful funding application to Sport and Recreation Victoria’s Regional Community Sports Infrastructure Program. Council was awarded $700,000 in funding from the State Government for the estimated $900,000 project, with Council contributing the remaining $200,000.

This significant investment will include the replacement of the existing and deteriorating court facility at Woady Yaloak Recreation Reserve with two new multi-lined netball/tennis courts to meet Netball Victoria and Tennis Australia standards for training and competition. Works will also include new fencing, shelters, and court side seating.

This project will complement the Sports Lighting Upgrade works to the oval and courts set to begin at Woady Yaloak Recreation Reserve in the coming months. These works will benefit many community stakeholders including the Committee of Management, Woady Warriors Football Netball Club, Woady Yaloak Primary School and the Smythesdale Tennis Club.

On Sunday 28 July, Golden Plains Shire Mayor Cr Brett Cunningham attended the Woady Yaloak Recreation Reserve with Member for Ripon, Martha Haylett MP, to acknowledge the successful funding application.

Construction of the new courts is anticipated to commence following the 2025 winter season with completion prior to the end of 2025.
