Golden Plains Shire Council Mayor Cr Brett Cunningham joined Member for Eureka Michaela Settle MP to officially open the new undercover arena at Leighdale Equestrian Centre in Teesdale today.

The 70m x 30m undercover arena project has included an undercover shelter, full lighting, water tanks, storm water drainage, spectator seating and a high quality, self-irrigating arena surface. This facility will provide the Committee of Management and clubs at Leighdale Equestrian Centre with an all-weather equestrian training and competition standard arena.

Cr Cunningham said the project had been a collaborative effort between the State Government, Council and the Committee of Management and participating clubs.

“This first-class facility will provide competition and training opportunities for local horse riders now and for future generations,” Cr Cunningham said.

“Council is proud to have worked with the State Government to complete this important community project, and the Committee and clubs have provided tremendous support.”

This $674,000 project has included a contribution of $318,296 from Sport and Recreation Victoria’s 2021 Local Sports Infrastructure Fund’s (Female Friendly Facilities category), $325,704 from Golden Plains Shire Council and a further $30,000 sourced by the Committee of Management and clubs. The Committee of Management and clubs also provided a further $30,000 for the installation of additional arena fencing and gate works.
