Winter Holiday Activities for Young People in Golden Plains Shire

Council is hosting a series of free activities for young people aged 12 to 25 years throughout the upcoming winter school holidays, with activities running from Monday 1 July to Thursday 11 July 2024. 

The free school holiday activities held across the Shire have been designed to support the needs and interests of young people, while also providing opportunities to learn new skills and connect with other young people.

The full list of school holiday activities available are:

Week one:

  • Monday 1 July, 9.30am to 4pm – Sovereign Hill Visit at Sovereign Hill, Ballarat.
  • Tuesday 2 July, 9am to 4pm – Responsible Service of Alcohol Training at the Woady Yaloak Recreation Reserve, 55 Heales Street, Smythesdale (16 years plus).
  • Wednesday 3 July, 9.30am to 3pm – Construction Induction (White Card) at the Woady Yaloak Recreation Reserve, 55 Heales Street, Smythesdale (16 years plus).
  • Friday 5 July, 5 to 10.30pm – Ballarat Ghost Tour in Ballarat.

Week two:

  • Tuesday 9 July, 9am to 4pm – Responsible Service of Alcohol Training at the Golden Plains Youth Hub, Milton Street, Bannockburn (16 years plus). Please note this session is sold out.
  • Wednesday 10 July, 9.30am to 3pm – Construction Induction (White Card) at the Golden Plains Youth Hub, Milton Street, Bannockburn (16 years plus). Please note this session is sold out.
  • Thursday 11 July, 8.30am to 5pm – The Art of Banksy: “Without Limits” at The District Docklands in Melbourne.

Golden Plains Shire Council Mayor Cr Brett Cunningham said the Winter Holiday Activity Program provided a range of both educational and recreational activities designed to support young people of all ages.

“There are some practical courses available which will give young people a leg-up in terms of employment opportunities. Council has also organised trips into Ballarat and Melbourne giving participants a great opportunity to mix with their peers through fun and exciting activities,” Cr Cunningham said.
